blake middle school, guidance philosophy

Guidance at the Blake Middle School is a part of the support system that helps all children strive for success, healthy, self-esteem, sensitivity to the needs of others and the ability to cope with change.  Utilizing guidance groups, individual counseling, and interactions with parents, administrators, staff and other professionals, the counselors foster the personal growth and development of the students by building on their strengths and interests.  At each level a designed guidance curriculum provides for the students’ engagement with topics that are age appropriate.  Discussions on personal, emotional, social and educational issues with hopefully heighten individual awareness.

Announcements

If a student needs a second copy of his/her progress report or report  card to be sent home with the student or mailed home (possible 2nd address), please notify the guidance office.

Visit the individual grade sections to view the Program of Studies by grade.  All grades have the choice of band/chorus/orchestra (must have previous experience with an instrument to choose band or orchestra) or none (will have an extra "related" class.)

The only leveled classes are in 8th grade math.  The teachers make the decision about who should be placed in which level. They consider placement tests, class grades, and the teacher's evaluation of the student as an independent learner.

For scheduling concerns please contact the guidance office or Mrs. Campbell.  Necessary changes will be made as soon as possible.
